Simon Armitage - "It Ain't What You Do..."

Dear students,

We're going to round up the biodata of this poet. So bring any peculiar detail you hit on about him.

The poem, It Ain't What You Do..., is here   and

here:  https://1drv.ms/w/s!ApngGRpHDi0sgQA-WsqyFM2sYguJ

This the author himself reading his own work - link.

Another way to access it below

Once you have the global perception of text + audio, analyse the meanings the poem intends to transmit to us. Do also the phonological analysis of it.

Enjoy!

Observations

Download the form form this blog and look for the Lab II course that suits your possibilities. Do the first observation asap to consider the students work in sounds as well as the first tones - they are already working with the set of falling tones.

The importance of watching soon is discovering the points of conflict between the two intonation systems.

The Little Prince - Activities

This will refer you to 3 post you received today.

1- Read the text in "Part 1 - Edit" and make it a logical text
2- Listen to the "Audio" and follow the text you just worked with
3- In ch 4, the book, find the part being read and edit the text you worked with in point 1 to suit the audio.        Do this in Google docs directly
4- Now with both audio & text, get this ready for imitation:
a- do the intonational decoding, and
b- look for these features: - GB (General British) sounds
                                                      - Key
                                                      - Orientation
                                                      - Percentage of the use of rises, falls & fall-rises

My deep apologies about today's class

Dear students, this morning, to my awakening time there was a power cut at home and thus, I was virtually trapped inside. It took me around 20 extra mins to be able to leave, with the supposed consequences in the travel downtown. I arrived at the JVG at 8:50. I am very sorry for you who were there on time and waiting.

In a next post you'll find a guide to the activities to carry out with the text and audio of The Little Prince you received.

See you and a wonderful week!
